The famous Rosetta Stone. 30x23cm

Image
The famous Rosetta Stone. 30x23cm   The famous Rosetta Stone, which was a key element to deciphering the Egyptian hieroglyphics, was casually found in north Egypt by a French military detachment. The Rosetta Stone is a fragment of an ancient Egyptian granodiorite stele inscribed with a decree issued at Memphis in 196 BC on behalf of the Pharaoh Ptolemy V. The decree appears in three different scripts: the upper text in Egyptian hieroglyphs, the middle part in demotic text and in the lower in ancient Greek. Thanks to that he presents essentially the same content in the three inscriptions, with minor differences between them, this stone provided the key to the modern understanding of Egyptian hieroglyphs. Saint George killing the Dragon (27x26x15cm)

Image
Saint George killing the Dragon (27x26x15cm) In the ninth century appears a popular story about St. George on horseback killing a dragon. This story, which is part of the Golden Legend, is also known as "St. George and the Dragon" and is the probable origin of all fairy tales about princesses and dragons in the West. It should be noted that the legend is told in various parts of Europe and Asia Minor as their own (and even in Japan, where you can equate George with the thunder god Susano-oh, the princess with the maid Kushinada and the dragon with Yamata-no-Orochi), so the details vary according to the local tradition. Persephone, at the right, wearing a long linen chiton with buttoned sleeves and a himation; she holds a long lighted torch to his left.
