The Divine shepherdess is a Marian advocation which represents the Blessed Virgin Mary as the heavenly shepherdess. The origins of the devotion are imprecise until the eighteenth century, but there are references of the Virgin Mary as shepherdess in the life and writings of John the Geometer, St John of God, St Peter of Alcantara, the Venerable Maria Jesus of Agreda, St Mary of the Five Wounds.
