Arab caravans arriving at the coast. 43x36cm

Today we present a work by Eugenio Lucas Velázquez. The painting is presented in a white frame, which enhances the beauty of the colours. Title: Arab caravans arriving at the coast.
Eugenio Lucas Velázquez was a Spanish painter of Romanticism, who was once called Eugenio Lucas y Padilla, when he was believed to be a native of Alcalá de Henares, a Spanish city.
The painting:
Bordering the hills of craggy rocks, several caravans are situated, pointing towards a large plain to meet a fleet of sailing ships, which can be guessed in the distance, moored on the shore, under the setting sun in red dusk. Walking on foot or mounted on their horses among the lively lines of figures, it is difficult to distinguish the Arab identity of their clothing, and it is left to the viewer's imagination as to the reason for their long journey, probably to deposit their goods on the merchant ships or to embark for distant lands.
