Gargoyle. 64x43x74cm

The origin of the gargoyles dates back to the Middle Ages and is related with the rise of the bestiaries and the torments of hell. It is also true that the imagination of medieval artists was paid by even older myths. In fact, the first gargoyles were baptized with the name of 'griffins', so evidencing its classical roots. However, the iconography of the gargoyles was not limited to the mere representation of griffins, but also embodied other fabulous creatures which could take the form of animals, humans or a mixture of both; but always represented more or less in a monstrous manner. At the present age we can find the Gargoyles which represents the supposed mythological powers which these rocks emanate with his monstrous shape.
